waimarama homestead

The owners of the existing two-story homestead found the heavily timbered interiors gloomy even on the brightest days. The Victorian orientation of the house to the road (east) and the servant quarters to the back (west) reduced sunlight penetration and compromised the house’s connection to the outdoors. The clients requested more sun, views of the bush and sea, a modern building performance, strong relationship to the garden and new pool, new and upgraded building services (including sprinklers), and a fully renovated and decorated interior. The overriding requirement was to maintain full respect for the well-resolved and executed architectural detail of the original house whilst providing for family living in the 21st Century.
