greystones house

This house nestles into a 900-square-metre west-facing sloping site and the ground floor interior spaces are gathered around an outdoor room. This outdoor room is one of the main living spaces, orientated for sun and frequently used late into the evening in the benign Hawke’s Bay climate. It is an extension of the kitchen and dining areas and also the main bedroom area.

Effectively the house contains an inner “apartment” specifically designed for one person with refuge and privacy in mind and to be occupied primarily during the spring and autumn seasons.

By stepping down to the house and with subtle level changes within the building, a full two-storey building was achieved within the site limits.
